Ricalton's original text from which this was extracted may or may not have gone into deeper detail about foot binding. I have the book, but it is packed away. Will dig it out later to compare.
In any case, his description is certainly "cleaned up" for this stereoview, as he fails to mention that the children's toes are all broken by hand before being "turned under the foot", as well as having the ankle and other bones broken and dislocated as well.
